Correct answer should include ANSI Z133.  It is the tree care industry standard.

This ensures that they are knowledgeable in the proper how’s, whys and when’s of pruning cuts.

Helmets and safety glasses are a minimum.  Chainsaw protective clothing is a major plus.

Do not allow “topping.”  Crown reduction, crown thinning, removal of dead limbs and structure clearance are acceptable types of pruning, if performed correctly.

Insurance is an absolute MUST in this industry.  There are way too many accidents and errors to risk hiring a company without a general liability policy.

Typically, two estimates can be written.  One that leaves debris on site and one that includes removal of debris.

Many companies will not explain ahead of time that large heavy equipment can possibly damage your yard.

Absolutely.  Most jobs will have at least a small number of limbs chipped into mulch.  This can be dumped on site, in a pile, for the client to use at their leisure.  This is a great way to return the nitrogen to the soil, insulate roots and protect trees from mechanical injury.
